Sorry Shan, no more Yogic Flyers
I looked into it for you, turns out you can't vote for them anymore. LINK
It seems the best thing you can do as a protest vote is the Green Party - (who are doing REALLY well in BC I might add - I think it will catch on...)
As much as I love Green, I'd rather see them win on a provincial rather than federal level. Why? Because I'm not sure they'd know what to do with Canada when they got it.
The NDP on the other hand...

NDP!
ok ok I can't do it - as much as I'm good with the Liberals, I'm left wing at heart.
Got home from work, and all the old people on my street have Conservative lawn signs, so I put in an order for an NDP lawn sign to counteract all that negative, corrupt energy. :)
Didn't sleep a wink last night, dumb insomnia, so I'm going to catch up... now. Night!

Leiningen versus the ANTS
This is one of my favorite short stories of all time, and I managed to find it online. You probably had to read it back in class, but it's great!
The reason I thought of it was that right now in my cubicle it's LAUREN versus the ANTS - one laid down a scent trail across my desk, and I'm getting these little voracious ants all over my desk. There are so many I can't count. The traps do NOTHING!
But that's good, right? No killing!
I can still flick, though, right, Buddha?

Neil's Letter to the Citizen
Wanted to show some support - a friend of mine got a letter published in the Citizen (local paper) yesterday, and I want to state that I completely agree with him.
Anyway - I made sure it was ok with Neil if I copied his letter, and he said it was fine:
To all those people out there who have supported the side of "Traditional Families"... please consider that you're HURTING lots of REAL PEOPLE when you support these. You're promoting a cause of HATE - and I can't see how any good person can see that as a moral action.
From what I have seen, there is no more stability from one type of family to another. Couples are formed because they love the other person, and, as most people agree, true love is focused on the person, not their gender.
Before you decide to support any such cause, I also challenge you to get out and meet people in the GLBT community, so that you can attach REAL names and faces to your ideas, and then maybe, just maybe, you'll start supporting an idea of a loving family of any dynamic.
Anyway - I made sure it was ok with Neil if I copied his letter, and he said it was fine:

Focus on the Family states in its full-page newspaper advertisements nationwide:"We believe in Mom and Dad. We believe in marriage," as well as, "traditional marriage - if you believe in it, protect it."
I am concerned that this organization defines itself as "Canada's premier family advocate" and claimes to promote the principles of healthy family living. What really is healthy family living anyway? Can a single-parent family not be a healthy family? Does a heterosexual couple that do not have children not qualify as a healthy family? And what about a child that has two lesbian mothers?
It is not the labels and stereotypes that society creates that determine a healthy family, but the persons involved who provide the love and the care for one another. Most groups and organizations opposed to gay rights or equal marriage will not state directly that "we believe gay marriage is wrong," or "we believe that gay parents are unqualfied parents."
To every gay, lesbian, and bisexual person who has ever been discriminated against, to every gay couple who are ridiculed for adopting children, and to every person who has engaged in a loving monogamous same-sex relationship, ads like these scream, "you are just not good enough."
A nation where every gay, lesbian and bisexual person is extended the same rights and privileges is finally within reach. Yet close-mindedness still continues to find a way to hinder the efforts of so many people that we can all be treated as equals.

Farewell to Narnia
After an excellent weekend spent with mostly Greg, of which I won't divulge details (no kissing and telling), I am settling back into my usual daily grind.
Today, feeling rather sleepy, I sat down and read through the last book in the Chronicles of Narnia, "The Last Battle", which I felt was by far the best book in the series. I was so saddened by what transpired: all the horrific events leading up to the final farewell, and then the destruction of the land of Narnia, and the severing of the connection of the children from the real world. If you only read one of the books, this is the one I think everyone should read. The allegory is tremendous, and you will feel moved, I think moreso if you read all the books leading up to it, and if you have an attachment with all the characters.
Something I really liked about it was the bit about Emett, and how he was a Calormene who served Tash, the sort of allegorical devil, but who served him by doing good deeds, and thus without knowing it, actually served Aslan. Emett was forgiven, and shown the true path at the end, given an opportunity to repent, and follow the others to the mountaintop. I liked this because it allegorically points to something I believe quite strongly: that, in life, good actions speak louder than words. People can say things and never truly understand them, and people can speak their beliefs and never truly believe them. While Emett feared and hated Aslan during his time in life, due to his society and his upbringing, he was not able to reject Aslan once it was proven to him how great he was, and he was then pardoned.
A loose end that I didn't like was Susan. I realize that she had chosen to ignore Narnia, but I felt deeply moved by the fact that the situation that EVERYONE she loved was now in and that she was missing. I won't say anything more specific, as this will make sense to people who have read it and won't spoil it for those who haven't.
All in all, I recommend these books to everyone (no matter what your own religious convictions), as they hold a deep, resonant power. Each one book on its own only gives a small part of the whole mythology, and on its own, one book isn't enough to make you understand C.S. Lewis' creation. Read all the books, if you do read them. They seem like a child's fairy tale at first, and the detail is not so great as in Tolkien's work. But they take you to so many places and introduce you to so many characters, and play so heavily with your morals, that you can easily begin to understand what Narnia is about.
