turkey? chicken may suffice...
I'm going to make a concerted effort to post more often on this blog - even though I feel as though I have nothing new to report. I guess by most standards I do, though, since I moved to Fredericton and my life is changing violently.
All that messy back and forth between here and Ottawa is over. The issue is now resolved, for the worse, but I thank all you, my dear friends, for your support during all that. Now, I'm settled, and comfy, and trying to find my niche in a new town.
My lab is quite fun, although it's only a serious place in a strange way. We seem to interrupt many days, invariably Friday and often Thursday, to go to the grad house or campus bar for food/beer. Needless to say, there is a lot of alcohol consumption, and my mother is calling me offering AA services. Ack. Foresters are sort of nuts that way - although I must say the biologists are almost as bad. Let's say the no drinks until after 10am barely applies here, and that most people here consider it necessary to have a beer, then a coffee, before data entry becomes bearable. Lately I discovered that the nasty devil I worked with over the summer f----ed up my data again, so I'm a little furious.
My apartment is huge and well appointed. It even smells like sugary coffee all the time thanks to a really well placed mocha candle. Still - there is definitely something missing. I think it's plants. My decorating style is to use very bland colours, and the white walls don't add a lot. It's currently very nature-y but a bit on the boring side. I'm going to try to get to the fabric store at some point to see if I can make my own wall hangings in a silky fabric - red or green. The best part is having a nice huge queen sized bed with the warmest comforter EVER!! WHEEE! (the worst part is getting out of that bed every morning at 6 am).
Grad school is lots of work, but it's weird. Since you predominantly are always working on the same project, you make your own work schedule and it doesn't feel like working while you're doing it. Especially conferences and the field work! I'm going back to Keji soon to present at a woodlot demonstration and to collect some traps - should be fun!
Tonight, two of us are going to try to cook a small chicken. With stuffing and the like. Neither of us could get home for turkey weekend.
Happy turkey eating!
