Do I really need premises?

Ok so here I sit, two minutes into the horse stance, wondering why I'm trying sooo hard to get into shape. I guess because it just feels great! Also relieves stress wonderfully. The point of the horse stance, which looks like this:

it is the main defensive crouch, but it's great for those thighs and your bum, which I've just discovered that if you clench, takes some of the pain off the thighs.

Ok... 5 minutes in, and my legs are starting to shake. Eep. I think willpower is easier to achieve when you're occupied, such as I am, with writing in my blog. Still hurts though. Actually - I recommend it - if you're stuck at your computer for hours on end and your legs are aching, get into this stance and just hold it for a good 10 minutes, it's really hard when you're not used to it!
However, I do want to get it together for my class on Friday.

Everything in life is good, I think. TAing is going quite well, and it's surprising how not bad I am! I was quite worried about being the "dumb TA"...

(lowering...)

(...ow....)

It's a long day, Wednesday, as I'm there for over 12 hours... not fun! I broke it up today by going to the gym and doing some weight lifting with Greg.. not the same as going with Shan because we take turns of our sets... but still great.

I had my night Philosophy lecture, which was interesting to say the least, if not slightly infuriating.

Ow.. YES... 10 minutes... ow ow ow.. collapsing time...

ok either I've gotten better in one go, or else she made us do that for a much longer time last class..

going to bed. tired. sick of thinking.

Descartes, or something about God.

I'm reading Descartes. I finally wrote my first paper for my modern philosophy class and what did I write about but the "proof that God exists". Funny enough coming from someone like me. We had to analyse the premises and go over them explicitly, and then state whether or not the premises are true, and if so we have to accept it. Problem was I had to accept that God exists based on the premises he laid out. Only problem was, he didn't take into account all the possibilities. Namely, and this is what it really comes down to, is that there must be something infinite from which finite comes from. Descartes sees this infinite as being in the form of God, whereas I would see this infinite in existence itself. A simpler explanation - I'm a big fan of parsimony. I agree that the infinite must be there, though. Needs a cause for the effect. There is an infinite in existence, and finite parts (our material existence) which result from it.

It's very weird stuff. Hard for a scientist such as myself to fathom, really.

On another note, I have decided that you can lick book pages to obtain information. It's osmosis as long as there's water involved.

Get studying, people!

Lab is terrific, at least I feel as though I'm making progress even though I'm likely working in circles. I have a ton of new species which I can't wait to name! I'm reading a phylogenetics textbook. Yes, it's as exciting as it sounds! Whee

In other news I saw that film "Shaun of the Dead" - please don't ask me how I saw it - but it's really quite excellent. You'll like it no matter who you are, unless you have no sense of random humour.

Good Stuff, good stuff.

Release Date

Hey guys - Return of the King Extended version is coming out in December - check out what's going to be on the disk here.

Who's up for a marathon?

:D

Followed by a real marathon? Karen?

Kung fu is quite the challenging exercise. Great stuff - it's been two days and I still can't lift my arms. I take this as being a good sign. But honestly, good work but very enjoyable.

Yesterday - Happy Birthday to Gregory! Great times were had by all - he even got me to dance with him (an astounding feat - my idea of dancing is pretty weird...)
