Someone turned back the clocks!
I'm living in the equivalent of a historic village, except I got to take my laptop and Sex and the City episodes with me.
Earlier this week, we got to set up at a plot on a local person's private land. The man who invited us down was awesome - he owned acres of his family's land dating back centuries, and took us back into his wootlot on a homemade wagon pulled by a massive Belgian horse! Unlike the usual "horse wagon rides" - the road was crazy, loopy and muddy - and it was a bit of a thrill ride. He showed us how he attaches selective logs to the horse, who helps pull them out of the woods - the old fashioned way!
Yesterday - the eggs hatched - so our tasks have changed somewhat. We went for an afternoon swim in the lake, before heading back to town just in time for a blackout. Unlike the city, when you lose power here you also lose water - all of it - instantly. Woot!
Had a nice candlelight evening before bed. I like the unpredictability of the country.

Fun weekend...
Ooo I'm hungry so I'll make this short. ish.
Had a lovely weekend! The sunny weather and downtime was most wonderful - I finished up Holy Cow, and also Enders Game. The former was great, but I found that I got bogged down a bit by details of complex religions. Enders Game was also good but I really think all of you guys hyped it a bit too much - I was honestly expecting a lot more from this famous ending (and I sort of saw that coming to tell the truth...) but it was a good book nonetheless and I couldn't put it down until I was done (thanks Meg for sending to me!!) Mel is reading it now. I also went running quite a bit on the weekend, I'm up to 40 minutes non stop - I'm working on getting up to 10K - slowly but surely. :D
Saturday night our house had a bit of an impromptu party. After a few drinks, we walked to the local school playground (where the previous picture of Caledonia must have been taken - it sits atop the hill) to play frisbee. Mel and I also played on the teeter totter. Yippee! Some of my housemates brought their guitars, which was fun too.
Today - it's been cold and cloudy and it was back to work, trying to find sites outside of the park. The mosquitoes were out in numbers today - they're more fragile and easier to deal with than blackflies because they can't crawl in under your clothes - although their bites itch a whole lot more. I feel rather bumpy overall. Frigging bugs.
Our housemates may still be here after today. Parks doesn't have the new lodgings all organized yet - so we'll see. High school kids will be moving in with us starting Wednesday. (Yay?) I know - I'm afraid for my new microwave.
