Painting 24/7
This week is officially march break for UNB. It's very refreshing to be on campus when there are no other students about. Even Kate went to Mexico after her harrowing proposal ordeal. The rest of us are still supposed to stick around, although we're taking it a bit easy because we've declared ourselves to be braindead.
Over the last two weeks, physical plant re-covered our lab's counters, and painted the walls. Our "redecorating" cost a whopping 13,000$ - so it wasn't in the budget to do much more! As a result, we decided to take it upon ourselves to repaint all the cabinets (ie under the lab tables (huge amounts of complex pipes and stuff), bookshelves, wall cabinets, you name it!) to match, since they were all dark brown. We're painting them a lovely cream colour. Anyway, Heidi, Leah, Andrew and I did the running around, got the primer and paint, and spend Monday priming all the surfaces. By 7 PM, priming turned into partying... and yes. T'was a good time. The view at night from the roof of the forestry building of Fredericton is rather lovely!
This morning, (late) after a lot of laughing at ourselves about our antics the night before, we kept painting. All day. Got the first coat all done. Dan took us out to Dimitri's for souvlaki to thank us - which was awesome. Since about 4 PM all I want to do is sleep though - I'm so frigging tired after that. Everything hurts.
Tomorrow - the second coat. Then I declare us finished.
On the plus side, the weather outside is tremendously beautiful. I wore a jean jacket today - wahoo!

Being alone can be fun!
It has been another splendid week. Two proposals - Heidi and Kate - both excellently done, and two subsequent lunches out with the lab to celebrate! 
They just opened the first Vietnamese restaurant in Fredericton, and they had Pho, except it was called "special soup". I got excited and was telling people to try it out, and they did - only when you don't know how to use chopsticks it can be difficult to eat. I take my chopstick abilities for granted, I guess. Friday spent running about town on errands - we got Leah some DQ cheeseburgers to alleviate pain of removed wisdom teeth!
I've been making an effort to get in shape and to eat right and I've already seen some results. My mid-flab has decreased somewhat, and I definitely feel stronger.
Went to the doctor Friday morning, and I'm glad to say that they're ruled out any
heart conditions for me (yeehaw!) which means the pains I'm getting are chest wall-related and not serious (although still somewhat strangely painful). I'm glad to hear it's nothing serious. As a big bonus, I got kudos from my doctor on my cholesterol levels in the bloodwork, which he said were impressively good. Go me!
Friday night - went to Leah's with Heidi to watch Walk the Line - it was a bit of a tear-jerker at times, but we couldn't resist humming along with the music.
Yesterday, wasted much time because I woke up and thought "I want to paint this crappy piece of Ikea furniture purple".
So I did. I went and bought paint and spent most of the day painting it and watching Serenity, which I just bought. Also had a beer or two - it seems like the thing to do while painting. I got a bit frustrated beacuse it was taking so long and not going on even, and also because I had it all over my hands and didn't have paint remover or nail polish remover. Ah well. It's starting to peel off now - I can be patient.
Plus, we're painting the cabinets in my lab tomorrow. Better not worry about paint under the nails too much, as I'll be painting for the next two days anyway.

No point in doing TOO much work - as our prof is going to be home spending time with his kids. *devilish grin* Still, I need to finish up my proposal presentation. I'm making the background shades of rosy-pink. Bet they've never seen THAT in forestry!
