Haiku
Last day of work is over, and now I'm sad to see it end. I'm lucky - the people I worked with are awesome!

The Road to Buffness... and Geekiness!
on the road again....
In the health war I rage against my body... (wait... don't tell it I said that... NOOO!! kill the brain with beer... that's the stuffff) I digress.
I've been out working ... out ... with a venegeance. Goal: Run 40 minutes, and get my arms and abs BUFF, baby!
I left work early today to go meet with my honours supervisor. I'm soo excited about the research I'm starting in the fall! It involves systematics (natural history) of the Curculionidae family...
I'll be sorting through some of the collections and identifying samples. He said that I will likely find some new species and be able to identify whole genera, and likely publish an actual paper at the end of the year. (You need to publish in entomology, because the names have to become official!) There's another girl from school working with him too, but I don't know her...
Tomorrow is my last day of work. I'm going to miss it - I always get so used to working there, and then I don't want to leave. I have to finish some things up, then we're going out for a teary goodbye lunch.
In other news, 4 more days until I leave for Scotland!
It's soooo soon...
I hope I can publish a few times from there!

Hot Topics at the Cottage...
I'm still updating from that week of bloglessness...
The zoo crew did our annual weekend at Camp Shanwise - it was amazing, despite everything floating away with the floodwaters. So much for the dock. My trusty hipwaders sure did the trick!! I don't think I drank anything non-alcoholic for the entire weekend, save a cup of coffee in the morning. Funny, didn't even get buzzed. Also tried to tan my feebly white legs. Failed miserably.
Inside jokes from the weekend:
Anything from this... It's not terribly hilarious or anything when you watch it, but having had it explained by innocently mischeivious Shannon: "hey... little girl... do you want to know a ... secret??", and then every time we were going to madly run into that freezing cold floodwater to swim "schone... doo... two and a heif...."
Another huge and I think will be lasting joke: is for us women to be "strroong Russian broads", not unlike the type of deep-voiced beauty you'd get in cheesy Bond films...
or... and I quote, "I need Vodka... and GLASS."
enough - I'm going to bed.

Concerning Hobbit Music
The gang went to see Howard Shore in concerto on Friday night at the NAC - doing the Lord of the Rings Symphony in 6 parts. Very sweet! We all looked so darling going to a classy establishment, but definitely didn't act the part while there. "Poo face will be a staple of children's literature someday!!"
The music was astounding and lovely. I was amazed by the sheer VOLUME of noise produced by a choir and orchestra of that size, especially during the (and if you get this, you're a geek) "KAAAALAAAAAAAW... KATAAAALAAAAAAA" Some things I noticed: trombones are just about the coolest instrument in the orchestra. They're rarely there for regular shows, and in this... they always signal DEATH. You KNOW that Boromir has kicked the bucket because the trombones jump in. Loudly. I'm thinking of running down my street playing my trombone music so that it means characters will die! Aha! Instrument of death! Another thing: big choirs are better live. You can feel the hair being blown out of your face. Another thing: you can hear the layers better live, as well. Shore is great at adding layers to add depth to his motifs, and building on them as it goes along. Terrific stuff.
My only regret: Billy B. was absent for his little song. Ah well. Can't have the world.
In other news I had this strange experience yesterday involving fortune cookies. I got a cookie that had TWO fortunes in it:
"There is a prospect of a thrilling time ahead of you."
"A thrilling time is in your immediate future."
Sounds exciting to me, if not a bit redundant!! And a week before I leave for Scotland too! Actually - this week is shaping up to be enjoyable: my last week of work, Greg coming home from TO on Friday for the weekend, a party chez moi on Saturday, and then a Sunday night party for Greg's family! Then trip on Monday! wooo
Thrilling eh? That sounds about right!
