Wowsers
Life's gotten surprisingly exciting. Sometimes!
Parents came down to Queen's county and we went to stay at the lovely Mersey River Chalets. I highly recommend this place to anyone who's down in these parts - the chalets are awesome. We spent so much time out on the deck reading about the Amazon and watching vicious hummingbirds battling it out. Then went for a solo canoe and kayak ride up the river, interspersed with some tennis. Small town jaunts, and lots of iced cream. So great! Then we went to Halifax - which was sweet too.
So then when I got back, Ryan and I went out to study moth behaviour - these are nocturnal moths, so it means stumbling about in the dark woods all night with a red lamp (until 6 am). It didn't work out so well as the population was down, but we saw SO MANY BATS flying around our heads. It was nearly constant with the bats. So cool!
After a brief sleep, I got a call inviting us up in a helicopter to get an idea of the widespread nature of the outbreak, so we went! Up and around like crazy in it, buzzing lakes for fun and trying to make sense of the garble coming out of the headphones. It's so much like being on a rollercoaster, but really really fun. I want to live in a helicopter, man! We're hopefully going up again, too! :)
In a related story, I learned to drive with a flat tire, and how to change a tire, from a bunch of very muscle-y men.
Um, so we're heading out again tonight to watch the moths for a second night, this time hopefully at a higher-density site.
Some loves in my life right now: Grey's anatomy, David Attenborough (he's the MAN), bats, helicopters, ice cream.
Yup, yah.
Bought the first season of Dark Angel. I had forgotten how cheesy the dialogue is - it's HILARIOUS. I mean, "Are you a playa playa from the Himalayas?"
SERIOUSLY.

I'm heading to Cape Breton on Sunday. Last minute decision but Kate needs some urgent help and our work's no longer urgent.
