Reciprocity
Imagine a world in which reciprocity was as natural as the Laws of Gravity.
For ever action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
While this has been explored through ideas such as karma, imagine that this policy is overseen by a being who cannot change this law, whose duty it was to ensure that it was enacted absolutely.
The idea of theivery would become obsolete as one would have stolen from them all that they stole.
One could not kill without immediately being killed.
...just a thought.

Spiderman, sink those Greenpeace boats!
Why won't Greenpeace leave me alone? Recruitment ad: "seeking persistent, loud and obnoxious teenager, no knowledge of the environment required". I bet they get paid on commission. They have someone new every day on the same street corner, and I must pass by it on the way to my bus. Why????
Yesterday was CANADA DAY!!
Although I live in Ottawa, the capital city and therefore street party central, I didn't do the whole downtown thing. It's definitely worth the trip for the celebration if you're from out of town, but the crowds are borderline excessive, and it's hard to get home after the fireworks. Instead, rather patriotically I think, we opted to go see Spiderman 2... which did not disappoint.
It's as though they shook all the elements from the first movie through a giant "crap" sifter and got rid of everything that made the first one pure cheese. Some of the things I was glad they got rid of were: That horrible Green Goblin costume that made him look like a Power Ranger, the horrible, horrible one-liners "you haven't seen the last of me, Spider-man!", Tobey Maguire's motionless face "yes... so ... very... sad...", Mary Jane's annoying "SAVE ME!! FOR GOD'S SAKE I'M JUST A GIRL" and the flaky ... everything.
The new movie was a much more satisfying ride. The characters were older and more well-established in their personalities, allowing them to flesh out quite a bit more. Also, the new villain, a robotic mollusk (cool) was amazing.
All in all, I recommend.

This one time, at bug camp...
So some of you may have wondered why I haven't posted in a really, really long time. The answer is... drumroll please... I was in Algonquin Park for the last week at a BUG CAMP! That's right, a real field course designed to teach me all about aquatic entomology in all its splendour, located at the Super-cool Wildlife Research Station.
Upon arrival, I immediately noticed just how calm and relaxed everyone was - a real bunch of hippies. It was sort of exciting to live with real wildlife researchers, aka in a hippie commune. The food was excellent but teetered on the verge of being super hippie, vegetarian and purple paste among some meals, hot dogs and thin-crust pizza among others. Each night was spent at a roaring campfire among fellow students with a few bottles of beer, our good old friend.
My field partner and I did a simple project with these little critters:
... cute, huh? We sampled using dipnets, the various levels of population density depending on vegetation density (low/medium/high) and also how the populations fluctuated throughout the day.
The week was amazing, I met so many lovely people from various backgrounds. I learned how tough I can really be when it comes to going and going all night and all day. I learned what my hair can look like without a shower....
I learned that mosquito bites can get bad, but are never more than a nuisance. That is, unless you have a bug jacket. And hip waders.
Anyhoo, for fear of driving you all mad, I'll just show you my favorite little critter that I picked up:
Meet Stick-Man Sasagewan (named after the lake in which I found him..) I'm feeding him other insects thus far, but I'm hoping to move him onto minnows soon!
