Getting to know myself

When you spend time with yourself, you really do get to see what you're like. I think I'm an angry, crotchety old man at heart. I really do.

I figured after the glorious end to the summer, I'd be back into a regular school routine, settle down in my apartment, go to classes, etc. etc. Alas, I still haven't been to a single class, I still haven't spend a single night in my BED in my apartment, and I still haven't had a regular day in the lab. I barely feel like a student there.

After the summer ended, I spent a week driving back and forth between Keji and Fredericton to bring stuff back. I still have to go back to Keji for more stuff. And for a small local research open house, in October. Argh.

Then I flew home, to Ottawa, for a few days. It was good, generally. Sad, but good. Spent the first weekend with Greg - before he left for his own program of study, so far away. My greatuncle Tom passed away, so I ended up spending a great deal of time with the family. Also saw the friends! :)

After this, packed, packed, packed up a big rental van and drove drove drove for 12 hours to Fredericton. Then unloaded the van, and spent the next 3 days MOVING. It was good to spend so much time with my parents, but at the same time, the constant lifting, shopping, and assembling furniture was tiring.

We got a call Saturday about bad stuff with my grandpa - fairly emergency stuff, so we drove all the way back to Ottawa (even though I hadn't unpacked a lot of the stuff into the newly assembled furniture - it's still in boxes). Had a heck of a shock, and a series of shocks - and somehow my grandpa's still alive, against all the odds. I've been staying with my nana at her place, (mostly in case the hospital calls with the dreaded "news"), and been spending my days at the hospital.

One thing I've learned: (most) Doctors are a bunch of twits and the majority should be shot. Then we could train new doctors, and have the social "level" of a doctor be synonymous with a leper. That way, people won't go into it for the wrong reasons, and nice people with good intentions going in won't develop a big ego.

Why the hell are there social levels anyway? Isn't everyone the same?

Lately I've become really sensitive to people thinking they're better than others. Can you tell?

What I really want to do is go to the third world, and help where I can. Go where I'm needed. No more of this bull crap. I'm not helping anyone here.

I guess I need to get through grad school first though. I've committed to it, and I enjoy it, and I plan to see it through.

Heading back to Fredericton tomorrow. My grandpa's been stabilized. Then - who knows, maybe things will settle down again.
